BONGO MASK

This mask belongs to many villages. The mask would represent the Pigmy ( note the bulging forehead), the endogenous population which was present when the Kuba entered their actual grounds. Thes types of masks have some liberty in their execution and are said to be the only onces that can criticise the chiefs policy during the dance.
This mask has as particularity that there is a fine crown of Cauris shells sculptured in the mass of the wood.
The piece was collected in situ in 2008 (KP)
